James Victor "Jim" Poe of Beaumont, MS passed away peacefully October 14, 2020, at Merit Health Wesley Hospital in Hattiesburg at the age of 72. Jim was born June 12, 1948, to Ed and Florence Poe in Loudon, TN. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School and from the University of Tennessee with a degree in forestry management in 1970.
He was a successful judge and businessman in Perry County for many years, where he made countless lifelong friends. His greatest passion was music, and he found great joy serving as minister of music at several churches in the Beaumont area.
He is survived by his wife, Kay of Beaumont; his brother Richard Poe (Carol) of Cartersville, GA; his sisters, Elaine Shands of Jefferson City, TN and Carolyn Oliphant (Greg) of Kingsport, TN; and his step-mother, Doris Poe, also of Kingsport.
He was the proud father of Kim Dyess (Todd) of Brandon, MS; Eddie Poe (Leslie) of Pearl, MS; and step-dad to Laurie Smith (Rodney) of Madison, MS and David Thurmond (Marcie) of Cumming, GA.
His 11 grandchildren were his greatest source of pride. He will be fondly remembered by Tyler (Danielle) and Hartley Poe; Bailey Hart; Maddie, Emma, Julia, and Seth Dyess; Andrew and Addison Smith; and Alex and Emily Thurmond.
Funeral services celebrating Jim's life will begin at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Runnelstown. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. also at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Beaumont Cemetery.
