Services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. for Carlos Wayne Herring, age 79, at the First Baptist Church of Beaumont. Carlos passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at his residence. Rev. Jason Powell, Rev. Bobby Ray Bolton and Rev. Ken Hembree will officiate at the service with burial to follow in the Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, October 14, 2020, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Beaumont.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sheriff Mitch Nobles, Danny Merritt, Jessie Woods, Lee Henry, Edward Bolton and Barry Pitts. Alternates will be Jaylyn Roberts and Scott Craft. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Post 80 American Legion. Cathryne Wells will provide music.
Carlos was born in Beaumont on the 25th of January 1941, and was a life long resident of Beaumont, Perry County, Mississippi. He bravely faced life and served his Heavenly Father, his country, his county and his community. He served his church as a deacon for many years and served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. The people of Perry County allowed him to serve as their sheriff for 20 years. Throughout the years, he also served the Town of Beaumont as an Alderman, a fire chief and a town marshal. After his retirement in 2008, he continued to serve through his work with Crime Stoppers. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 80 in Beaumont. Through his continuous service to others he was given the opportunity to acquire many cherished friends and help others. Carlos truly had a genuine love for working with people.
His passion and greatest joy in life was his family. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Carlos loved his family with an unconditional and everlasting love. His parents, W.W. and Cora Herring, a sister, Anna Lou Mixon, and brothers, W.M., Tommy, LeCoy and Dewey Herring, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye Herring; a daughter, Clarett (Don) Lott; and a son, Timothy (Teresa) Herring. He has four grandchildren, Zeb (Jamie) Lott, Clint (Vicky) Lott, Tristen (Garrett) Herring and Wayde (Ashley) Herring. Carlos was blessed with three great grandchildren, Hartley Reece, Corbin Levi and Magnolia Rose. Carlos is also survived by a brother, B.T. (Donna) Herring and a sister-in-law, Francis Herring. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whom he also loved dearly.
Carlos leaves behind a legacy of service to others, integrity, kindness, strength, courage, leadership and stubbornness. We are all better people for having had him in our lives.
