Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2019, at Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg for Mrs. Irma Claire Hegwood, age 91, of Madison, MS who passed from this life on July 18, 2019. Pastor Steve Castell will officiate with burial to follow in the Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Arnold, Lane Boler, Mel Cordua, Doyle King, Michael Phillips and Chad Tompkins.

Irma and Ed loved their church and were charter members of Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon and Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg. She, along with quite a few ladies, helped cook meals on Wednesday nights to raise money for the beautiful rose window in the front of Heritage Church. She was very active in her Sunday School Class, the Joy Class, and United Methodist Women. She was an accomplished quilter (no machine stitches, only hand stitching) and crocheted beautifully.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hegwood; granddaughter, Lauren Sperry, her sister, LaNelle Boler Purvis who died on Wednesday, July 17 and her son-in-law, Bill Tompkins.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Gay Tompkins of Madison, Janet Claire Arnold (Rick) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Donna E. King (Doyle) of Brandon; grandchildren, Chad Tompkins (Ginger), Bethany Tompkins, Rick Arnold, Jr. (Kate), Casey Arnold and Scott Blackburn (Paige); great-grandchildren, Charles Blackburn and Margaret Blackburn.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2019, at Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg.
