Dwain Jay Powell of Ellisville, born November 9, 1958, in Ephrata, Washington, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on April 14, 2020, in Meridian, Mississippi.
Dwain was a 1977 graduate of South Jones High School. He worked as a welder for several years until a spinal cord injury in 1985 left him a quadriplegic. During the years since his injury, he kept in touch with family and friends through his computer, and blessed everyone with his optimism and sharp wit. He enjoyed traveling, and had traveled with his family to 49 of the 50 states, Mexico and Canada.
Dwain was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, where he severed as deacon and was active in Sunday School and the prayer ministry.
Dwain’s courage and bold witness for Christ were evident to all who met him, and he was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents William Hanson and Gerry Powell, and grandparents J.P. and Ludie Powell and James and Ada Kearley. He is survived by his wife Tamara Powell, sister Alicia Breazeale and husband Rick, brother Jurl Powell, and niece Jessica Creppel and husband Kaleb, and nephew Matt Eason.
A private service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020, at 10:30 am at Sand Hill Baptist Church. The service can be viewed at https:/livestream.com/sandhillbc. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 on Friday at Sand Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Reverend James Blankenship will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Artie Adams, John Crosby, Stevie Dale Maskew, Ken Robertson, David Turner, and Geary Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Bret Bouchillon, Brad Ellzey, Donald Hill, Ken Rivers, Ray Smith, and Steve Thrash.
