Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville for Jimmie Dick Blakeney, 88 of Taylorsville, who passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Collins Veterans Home in Collins.

Reverend Arthur Newman will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery in Taylorsville. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville.

Pallbearers will be Harry Blakeney, Larry Blakeney, Wesley West, Chad Bounds, Blake Blakeney, and Jorden Blakeney. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian West and Jacob Jones.

Mr. Blakeney was born on April 23, 1931, in Smith County. He was a 1949 graduate of Taylorsville High School. After high, he attended Jones County Junior College, until he joined the United States Navy. He served our country during the Korean War. After returning home from the war, Mr. Blakeney was very active in coaching peewee football and little league baseball. Mr. Blakeney was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most of all watching the grandchildren play ball.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecil Ruth Blakeney; his parents, Gail Cristina and Louise Keene Blakeney; and one brother, Thomas "Tom" Blakeney.

Survivors include one son, John Michael Blakeney Sr. of Taylorsville, MS; one step-son, Randy Windham of Fairhope, AL; one step-daughter, Michelle Windham of Florence, MS; two brothers, Charles "Hop" Blakeney and John Billy Blakeney both of Taylorsville, MS; one sister, Joyce Prine and her husband, Ray of Taylorsville, MS; four grandchildren, Kirsten Blakeney, John Michael Blakeney Jr., Tanner Blakeney, Paige Blakeney, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
