Glenn David Smith was proud to be born in Eastabuchie, MS on October 15, 1939. He passed away quietly in his sleep on December 9, 2020, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, MS where he was a resident at the Martha J. Lesley Home for Veterans. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Petal Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with visitation at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Smith served our country beginning with the Navy and concluding with the Army for 20 years, retiring in 1977. During his term of service he traveled the world specializing in Herc Missile operations. He received various awards including marksmanship, National Defense service medals, expert missile badges and more.
After his military retirement he returned to his first love and opened Smith’s Jewelry and Watch repair, first begun by his father decades before. His shop served all of south Mississippi and he held the distinction of being one of the first Rolex watch technicians in the region.
He attained the rank of Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge of Eatonville, now the Hattiesburg Lodge #397.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents Solomon and Edith Smith; his first wife Anna Barbara Hoey Smith; a brother Jimmy Smith and stepdaughter Patty Grace Jenkins McMurry.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gail Mims Smith; his sister Barbara Nell Campbell and his children: Michael Anthony Smith (Anna), Suzanne Smith Lee (Leroy) and Barbie Smith May (J. Terrell), step-son Tom Jenkins (Dinah) and step-daughter Angela Edwards. His grandchildren include JR Lee ( Saralynn), Heath Lee (Melissa), Madi May Green (Michael), Matthew May and step-grandchildren Kyle McMurry, Austin McMurry (Paige) Danley Jenkins Herring (Chris), Canton McMurry (Kayla), Cooper Edwards, Morgan McMurry, Allana Jenkins Powe (Eric) and Andy Edwards. Great Grand-Children are Anna Grace Lee, Addison Lee, Charli Green, Johnson Green, Carson McMurry, Annaleigh Grace McMurry and Elizabeth Grace Powe.
