Master Chief J. L. Jenkins (Retired), 83, of Petal passed away on April 20, 2020, at his home. Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2020, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:10 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Petal, followed by a graveside service at Runnels Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Master Chief Jenkins served 32 years, 1 month, and 8 days in the U.S. Navy as a Photographer’s Mate. After retiring from the Navy, Master Chief Jenkins worked 12 years for the U.S. Postal service. He enjoyed playing football and softball.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Jenkins; his wife, Pat Jenkins; and a sister, Sharon Runnels.

He is survived by his son, Greg Jenkins of New Orleans, LA; his daughter, Kathy Forte of Petal; four grandchildren, Justin (Kimberly) Jenkins of Benton, AR, Bethany (Geoffrey) Greaves of Henderson, NV, Christopher Forte of Petal, and Taylor (Cole) Perrin of Carson, MS; two great-grandchildren, Harper Jenkins and Logan Greaves; his sister, Doris Jackson of Purvis; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in Master Chief Jenkins’ name.

Due to the current state and local mandates regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic, persons wishing to come to the visitation on Friday, will be allowed to enter in limited number of groups.
