Funeral services for James B. Yates, 83, of Taylorsville were held Friday, February 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Bro. Sidney Davis and Bro. Gary Robertson officiated. Pallbearers were Mt. Zion Baptist Church Deacons. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Yates died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Covington County Hospital in Collins. Born in Philadelphia, he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was fun loving, full of jokes and always had a smile on his face.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Janette Yates; great grandchild, Hartley Wilson; parents, William Henry and Lillie Mae Yates and brothers, Howell Yates and Charles Yates.
Survivors include his daughters, Renee Somerville, Shannon Yates and Debbie Shelby (Arthur); son, Winston Yates (Patricia); 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and brothers, Paul Yates (Carmen), Jerrell Yates (Laura), Ted Yates (Shirley) and Dan Yates (Susan).
