Clarice Holifield Yelverton, 92, was born in Laurel, MS to Floyd and Cora King Holifield on June 14, 1927. She was their sixth child of ten children. Her family also included two half-brothers and two half-sisters. She deeply loved her family members.

On August 16, 1946, Clarice married Ted Yelverton and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before Ted’s death. They had 3 children and made Hattiesburg their home.

After raising her children, Clarice opened the first uniform store in Hattiesburg, Yelverton Uniform Center, in 1972. She operated her store until 2005 when her building was removed to build 28th Place Medical Center.

Clarice was a faithful member of Temple Baptist, which became Hardy Street Baptist Church. She served as a teacher to youth, church librarian, and sang in the church choir over 40 years.

Early Sunday, May 17, 2020, Clarice made her journey into the arms of Jesus, from Forrest General Hospital. She leaves behind many who love her, including her children, Diane Y. Lee and her husband Doug of Petal, MS; Clay Yelverton and his wife Donna of TyTy, GA; and Mitzi Y. Noblin and her husband Mike of Meridian, MS. Also missing her are her grandchildren, Benjamin Lee (Jodie) and their children Mary Claire, Josh, Ross, and Aubrey Lee; Lindsay Noblin Taylor (Mitch) and their daughter Cora; and Grant Noblin (Brittany).

Clarice is also survived by two sisters, Doris H. Wilson of Ellisville, MS and Marie H. West of Claremore, OK; and one brother Major Holifield of Laurel, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Clarice enjoyed living her last ten years at Provision Living where she was loved and cared for by many staff members and residents.

Due to COVID-19 limitations, only the immediate family will have a memorial service and Clarice will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hardy Street Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, MS. Moore Funeral Services is in charge.
