On Saturday, August 31 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Laurel Police Department officers responded to a “shots fired” call in the area of Masonite Drive and Elm Street. Witnesses reported that a male victim had been allegedly shot and forced into a vehicle. The victim was later released in Hattiesburg and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Forrest General Hospital.
The next day, Sunday, September 1, Tydariun Magee (19 years of age) of Collins was arrested and charged with accessory before the fact of kidnapping. Bond was set at $35,000.
Then on Wednesday, September 4, Anthony Barnes (also 19 years of age) of Collins and a juvenile male were arrested by Collins Police in reference to this incident. Both were transported to Laurel, where Barnes is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and armed robbery. Barnes will have his initial appearance in Laurel Municipal Court today, and the juvenile will be referred to Jones County Youth Court.
