Covington County Sheriff's Office seeks answers in late night killing in Hot Coffee

W.J. Seals was found shot to death in his home Monday night in Hot Coffee.

Covington County Sheriff’s Department officials have been questioning neighbors and family since late Monday night in the shooting death of a 66-year-old man who lived alone near Hot Coffee in Covington County.

The body of W.J. Seals was discovered in his living room with multiple gunshot wounds about 10:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, Investigator Tony Puckett said Tuesday afternoon.

“Officers were called out to the residence after the neighbor behind the victim’s house said he heard gunshots,” Puckett said. “They found the front door wide open.”

Puckett said Seals was divorced and lived alone. No suspects have been identified yet.

“He didn’t have a steady job,” he said. “He did some odds and ends for his neighbors and his family.”
