Sword wielding and a shooting.
This is the latest crime the Jasper County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
According to Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson, a man allegedly threatened to cut off his wife's head late Monday night (June 29). That man is now in a Meridian hospital suffering from a gunshot wound dealt out by his wife.
Johnson said 56-year-old Karl Wortwick was shot in the chest by his wife, 57-year-old Dawn Wortwick, at approximately 11 p.m. Monday night, at their residence on CR 5133 in Rose Hill.
Johnson explained Wortwick allegedly threatened his wife, came into the home, and started swinging the sword. He then was shot.
"Karl Wortwick, a white male, was shot once in the right side of his chest with serious, but non-life threatening injuries," Johnson said Tuesday. "He drove himself from the scene to Rush Hospital in Meridian, Miss., where he is being treated and possibly undergoing surgery to have the bullet removed."
Johnson went on to say that evidence and statements from the scene support a scenario of self defense within a domestic altercation.
"However, charges cannot be ruled out as being possible at a later time. At this time no one is in custody and the incident is still under investigation," he explained.
