Jones County - A four car collision at 9:30 p.m. on Friday left Interstate 59 closed down for almost an hour Friday night, June 14, and traffic slowed for an hour and a half. The incident began when a vehicle lost control on southbound 59 just south of mile marker 90 and was hit by the second vehicle, sustaining major damage to the front of the car and sending the second vehicle down the embankment off the shoulder of the interstate.
Unable to see the wreckage in the roadway in the dark, a third vehicle swerved to miss a tire in the road and was hit by the fourth car. Five adults were sent to the emergency room with moderate injuries and one refused transport by the ambulance.
Ellisville Fire Department and Calhoun, Powers and South Jones volunteer fire departments were on scene to assist with traffic control and diversion off the interstate and onto Highway 11. MHP, JCSO, and Ellisville PD were also on scene, along with multiple ambulances from Emserv Ambulance Service.
