A 53-year-old Lamar County woman died Thursday morning in a mobile home fire near Baxterville, while a man was transported to Forrest General Hospital with smoke inhalation.

Lisa Ainsworth died from smoke inhalation, according to Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne. A man who also suffered smoke inhalation was recovering from non-life-threatening causes at Forrest General Hospital, Matherne added.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said a 911 call was received at about 5:38 a.m. about a mobile home that was on fire on B. and O. Thompson Road.

“They said that there was still there was a female still inside the residence,” he said. “Southwest, Rockhill, Pine Ridge, and Beaver Lake volunteer fire departments and the county sheriff’s office responded. Upon arrival, they located a female in one of the bedrooms. She was unresponsive, and they got her out. She had already passed away. I believe she died from smoke inhalation.”

County fire investigators are on scene about noon trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire, Rigel said.
