November 5, 1960

Laurel downed Moss Point, 21-13, as James Nichols scored on two 3-yard runs for the Tornadoes. Scott Coffield also scored on a short 4-yard run for the winners.

Mary Ann Garbo was crowned Homecoming Queen as the 1959 Queen Linda Lowrimore crowned Garbo. Calhoun smothered Mount Olive, 42-6, as Frank Drennan ran for two scores and kicked a 23-yard field goal. Calhoun finished the season at 7-2-1 and 4-1-1 in Apache Conference play.

November 6, 2010

Dontreal Pruitt scored four times as Laurel claimed an opening round 4-A win over Florence, 41-16. Devontay Barnett scored three times as West Jones rolled over PRC, 49-17, in 5-A playoff action.

November 7, 1970

Louis Jenken’s 28-yard run with 4:15 to play and Terry Taylor’s extra point kick gave South Jones a 13-12 win over West Jones. Carlton Dillard and John Jordan both scored two touchdowns as NE Jones ran over George County, 38-6, to finish in a first place tie with Poplarville for the Desoto Conference Championship. Wyatt Turan, Benny Hinton, Willie Triplett, Butch Chadwell, Jim Quinn, Joe Roberts, Delta Henderson and Richard Carter each scored as Laurel blasted Provine, 53-0, in Big 8 action.

November 8, 1980

Undefeated West Jones scored in the final minute to escape with a 14-12 win over stubborn South Jones. Ronnie Ducksworth and Julius Deloach scored on long runs for the Mustangs (8-0-1). Leo Shelby rushed for both SJ scores. NE Jones (7-3) ran all over North Pike, 41-6, as Greg Rodgers passed for two scores and kicked two field goals. In other action, Pascagoula shut out visiting Laurel, 10-0.

November 8, 1970

Ole Miss whipped Houston, 24-13, in Oxford as Archie Manning scored twice in the win, but he also suffered a broken arm in the game.

November 9, 1970

Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans set an NFL record with a 63-yard field goal on the game’s final play to lead the Saints past Detroit, 19-17.

November 10, 1995

Laurel Tornado baseball player Grant Sharpe signed with a scholarship with Ole Miss. Chris Albritton pumped in 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as West Jones downed Laurel, 82-75, in high school basketball action.

November 11, 2000

Laurel (12-0) rolled over Petal, 34-14, in opening round playoff action. Troy Wolverton scored twice and threw a 96-yard TD pass to Thomas Hosey for the winners. Cedric Gaines intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a score while Alexander Murry also scored on a 3-yard run.
