Thanks to a generous donation from a Jones County business, Powers Fire & Rescue will be adding a life-saving piece of rescue equipment to the department's inventory.

Robert and Liz Palmer, owners of Precision Quick Lube in Laurel, have made a substantial financial contribution enabling Powers Fire & Rescue to purchase an Amkus Ion Electric Combi Tool which will be used for vehicle extrication, structural collapse rescues, and forced entry situations among other uses.

"We cannot say thanks enough to Robert and Liz for their awesome contribution which will allow us to deploy this life-saving rescue equipment with our all-volunteer fire and rescue department," notes Powers Fire Chief Joey Davis.

Ed Ritchey, President of Powers Fire & Rescue advises, "The Amkus Ion Combi Tool utilizes a 60 volt Dewalt rechargeable battery to power the portable rescue tool. This greatly expands our rescue capability and exponentially increases our ability to quickly access trapped victims."

The Amkus Ion Combi Tool is expected to be delivered in late September and will be placed into service immediately after Powers firefighters are trained on tool usage and care.
