According to a report from Jones County Fire Council’s Dana Bumgardner, the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department received a call for a possible structure fire at 555 Maxcey Road just before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Per the report, an elderly female made the 911 call due to her bedroom being filled with smoke.
She was able to get to the door of the mobile home but was unable to exit the single-wide mobile home.
A Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputy quickly responded and arrived on the scene, assisting the trapped resident from the home.
Upon arrival, Calhoun Volunteer firefighters located and extinguished the fire, which was ruled as an apparent electrical fire in the wall of the home.
“Thanks to the quick response and excellent work of the firefighters, the home sustained minimal damage during the incident, said Bumgardner in the press release.
The fire was believed to originate from faulty wiring and could have been a deadly situation since it was located in the resident’s bedroom close to her bed.
Bumgardner noted that she certainly has lots to be thankful for this holiday!
No other injuries were reported at the scene, however, EMServ Ambulance Service was also on scene for precautionary measures.
