The Laurel Police Department’s annual Fill-a-Truck event was a great success according to Police Chief Tommy Cox in a statement Friday.
The department which has held the event for six years and now carries on the event in memory of late Police Chief Tyrone Stewart saw over six truckloads of non-perishable items be donated from citizens around the area.
“Laurel Police Department would like to thank the public who responded in a big way Monday and Tuesday during the Fill-a-Truck event,” stated Cox. “The event, that aided the mission of the Good Samaritan Center, collected 6 1/2 truckloads of food along with $967 dollars in donations.”
This is their second event of the year as they expanded to also doing the Fill-a-Truck event over the summer.
“The tremendous support made this our most successful event yet,” said Cox.
The event has been held at Laurel Wal-Mart which has been a proud partner with the Laurel Police Department and supporters.
