In light of the current health crisis, the DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi has modified its annual Speakeasy event.
DuBard School has partnered with Brass Hat in Midtown Hattiesburg to hold a giveback event on Oct. 1 in lieu of the traditional Speakeasy. Tickets will not be sold for the event. Those attending will purchase their food and drinks, with a portion of proceeds going to DuBard School.
“We are very excited about this partnership,” said DuBard School Director Dr. Missy Schraeder. “The Giveback event allows us to continue the Speakeasy tradition while staying safe by following guidelines put in place for restaurants. Brass Hat’s offer to donate a portion of proceeds from the evening was very generous, and we are extremely appreciative.”
At the Giveback event, attendees are encouraged to wear 1920s attire. Live jazz music will be playing throughout the night and themed drinks will be offered. DuBard School will be promoted in various ways during the event, and there will be opportunities for additional giving. The Giveback will be from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 1.

DuBard School plans to return to the traditional Speakeasy format for the 2021 event on Oct. 7 at the Bottling Company in downtown Hattiesburg.
