Volunteers with The Glory House of Laurel made many residents smile recently with their recent holiday food distribution.
Grant Staples, one of the founders of the Glory House, and several volunteers went out in the street and began passing out boxes of food items.
Staples and his wife, Hope Staples founded the mission, which is located at 803 North 2nd Avenue in Laurel. Staples said The Glory House Global Outreach is a Christian mission ministry based in Laurel, MS.
He said the group’s mission is to share the love of Christ with our community and world by loving God and loving people. This is accomplished by serving others through our food and personal care pantry, Bible studies, preaching, teaching, evangelism, worship, children's ministry, camps, mercy ministry, disaster/emergency response, men's and women's ministry events and activities.
He said the mission had traditionally provided hot cooked Thanksgiving meals to residents at the L.T. Ellis Center. However, due to COVID-19, the mission could not conduct the fellowship luncheon this year, so they were able to get donations for food to be distributed to residents for a holiday meal.
The food boxes contained several items including cooking oil, potatoes, yams, stuffing, and a turkey.
Staples said the mission distributes food boxes to residents throughout the community monthly at its Bread of Life Center on Arco Lane. He said workers hope to be able to bless residents again soon.
