The Jones County Sheriff’s Department arrested two suspects Monday night on multiple charges that include possession of marijuana with intent, possession of MDMA with intent, possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigator Jake Driskell spotted the two suspects when they allegedly shot a firearm from their vehicle on Sand Hill Township Road.
“I just happened to be in the area and was in an unmarked vehicle. They went a couple of hundred yards out and went into someone’s yard and started firing a gun. I got in my vehicle to go down there, and by the time I got down there, they were coming back in my direction,” said Driskell. “I turned around and turned my blue lights on. They threw a bag of drugs out of the window [marijuana and MDMA tablets along with ecstasy].”
“After further investigation, we found a loaded handgun under the seat.”
Driskell also stated that Anthony Tillman - one of the suspects involved - will be charged with the possession of firearm by a convicted felon. Neither he nor the other suspect, Damien Newell, claimed the drugs or handgun, so both were charged with the items found.
Neither Tillman’s or Newell’s bond has currently been set, but Driskell stated it is doubtful that Tillman will have a bond set.
Driskell stated that neither fired on him and no one was injured.
