A Thanksgiving night incident between a couple ended with one being taken to a Jackson hospital and another arrested and charged with domestic aggravated assault and kidnapping charges according to Sgt. JD Carter from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred in the Sharon community according to Carter.
“A female was knocking on her neighbor’s door calling out for help. The neighbor saw a male suspect carrying the female back to the house,” said Sgt. Carter. “She was able to escape his grasp, but he ran her down and tackled her, dragging her back to the house.”
Eric Hammonds was the suspect charged in the incident. He was charged with Domestic Aggravated Assault along with a Kidnapping charge due to dragging the female victim back to the house against her will.
Hammonds bond was set for $20,000 and he was released the following day after meeting the release fee of $10,000 for each charge.
“When deputies arrived at the house there was blood in there, so it was obvious she was assaulted,” explained Sgt. Carter.
Sgt. Carter said she was taken to a Jackson hospital to be treated for her injuries.
