The Jones County Supervisors presented Coach Scott Pierson and the West Jones Mustangs High School football team with a certificate of achievement for winning the 2020 Class 5-A State Championship, their first championship in the school’s history. Accompanying Coach Pierson was his wife, Angie.

During their regular meeting Monday, December 21, the Jones County Supervisors presented Coach Scott Pierson and the West Jones Mustangs High School football team with a certificate of achievement for winning the 2020 Class 5-A State Championship, their first championship in the school’s history. Chancery Clerk Bart Gavin read the certificate of achievement, and it said, “The Jones County Board of Supervisors is proud of the perseverance and hard work of head coach Scott Pierson and his staff, the seniors and the rest of the players who helped the team bring home the coveted gold ball. You represented all of Jones County with class and distinction in your quest to win the prestigious title overcoming devasting tornadoes, a global pandemic, and other unforeseen obstacles as you kept your eyes on the ultimate prize, to take down the West Point Dynasty, 33 – 27, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson on Saturday, December 5, 2020.”

In other business, the supervisors excepted a letter of resignation from Justice Court Public Defender David Sullivan. Beat 3 Supervisor Phil Dickerson recommended Aaron Parker to replace Sullivan, seconded by Beat 2 Supervisor T. Larry Dykes. The supervisors voted unanimously for Parker to replace Sullivan as Justice Court Public Defender.

CFO Charles Miller reported speaking to MEMA before the board meeting, and funding for the Easter Tornado relief is in stage 3 of 5 stages and should be in Jones County in a couple of weeks.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 4, at 9:30 a.m. at the Ellisville Courthouse. Each meeting of the Board of Supervisors on even-numbered months and all third Monday meetings are held at the Laurel Courthouse. The first meeting on odd-numbered months is held at the Ellisville Courthouse.
