A jar of expired mayonnaise resulted in a near-deadly situation for one victim and landed a male suspect in jail Saturday evening according to Sgt. JD Carter with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Zachary Webb was arrested and charged with Domestic Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Simple Assault on a Police Officer per Sgt. Carter.

“The incident happened in the glade area,” stated Sgt. Carter. “When deputies arrived, the female victim told them that her boyfriend choked her and kicked her. She had obvious marks and things on her body.”

During the arrest, an incident then broke out between Webb and the arresting officers.

“During the arrest, Webb struck one of our deputies. The deputy was not injured, but he did try to fight them during the arrest,” said Carter.

Webb was arrested and due to the strangulation charge, under Mississippi law, that is a felony charge according to Sgt. Carter.

During the interview with the victim, she explained to the officers that the incident started with the mayonnaise that expired.

“Basically, what she told us is that she was telling him about the mayonnaise being expired, and for some reason, it turned into a verbal argument then turned physical,” said Sgt. Carter. “She just didn’t want him getting sick, but it went downhill from there.”

Sgt. Carter said that there were no injures to any of the officers on the scene and that he believed the victim did not need to be hospitalized.
