Schools in the Pine Belt counties are taking time off as Hurricane Sally makes her visit to the South Mississippi area in the next few days.
Hurricane Sally is an active tropical cyclone that is currently affecting South Florida while threatening the Gulf Coast. On Saturday, the depression made landfall near Miami, Fla., and strengthened into Tropical Storm Sally that afternoon.
Sally became a strong Category 1 hurricane on Monday.
Lamar County schools will be closed for all classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Forrest County will close all schools on Tuesday.
Officials in Forrest County are looking at forecasts and results on Tuesday to determine Wednesday’s plans.
In Covington County, schools will dismiss at noon Tuesday, and school is canceled for Wednesday.
