Southern Civitan Club held a dedication ceremony Thursday afternoon, September 3, for a new wheelchair-accessible swing they purchased and placed in the playground area of the Laurel Susan Boone Vincent Sportsplex in Laurel.
“The club is excited to provide this for the community and plans to do other projects for individuals with disabilities,” stated President Tiffany Parrish.
A special certificate was given to Adam Hauenstein, a friend of the Southern Civitan Club, for his help in getting the unique swing.
“Each swing cost $2,000,” said Parrish. “We will be selling pecans beginning in October and hope to place another wheelchair-accessible swing in another playground in Laurel soon.”
Southern Civitan is a chapter of Civitan International, which was founded in 1917 and now has over 30,000 members worldwide. Civitan is the only service organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
