A suspect was arrested by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department after fleeing and crashing his vehicle which led to being apprehended in the woods after a short chase.
Antonio Barnett, 28, of Heidelberg was charged with multiple charges and had prior charges through the Laurel Police department. Combined, these charges include Reckless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance while in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine while in Possession of a Firearm, Burglary-Dwelling of a House, and Attempted Kidnapping.
“He has a strong history of fleeing police,” said Sgt. Jake Driskell. “He has fled in vehicles several times in the past few months since bench warrants have been issued on him. This morning, This morning he fled again, and in the short pursuit, he wrecked his motorcycle. Once he got up, he fled on foot, and Deputy Bradley Boyd was able to chase him down and take him into custody where it was found he had a couple of grams of methamphetamine on him.”
Barnett’s other charges including the attempted kidnapping and burglary are from the Laurel Police Department and their prior history with the suspect.
“The burglary and attempted kidnapping are charges from the Laurel Police Department are from back in July where he fled from their officers.”
Driskell explained that his bond would likely be set in the next day or two before appearing before Judge Dal Williamson. He also reported that only minor injuries were reported on the suspect and no injuries were reported for any officers.
