Tiffiney Weddle named Principal of the Year

Tiffeney Staples Weddle

Dr. Jeff Arrington, Pacific West District superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Tiffiney Weddle, principal at Humphreys Middle School, as “Principal of the Year” for South East Asia, including the country of Korea, where the Weddles reside. This coveted award is from the United States Military, Department of Defense Education.

Weddle was in the top five nominees for “Principal of the Year” for the United States Military worldwide. She began her career in education in the fall of 1996 at a small rural school in central Mississippi. After serving in Mississippi public schools for three years, Weddle applied to the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in June 1999, was accepted, and began her first assignment in Okinawa in the fall of 1999.

Weddle earned a Bachelor’s of liberal studies in May 1996 from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She was then awarded a Masters of Education in gifted education in August 2003 from William Carey College in Hattiesburg. Weddle began her post-graduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi on the Ph.D. track in 2010.

Weddle’s professional experience includes teaching in all grades from kindergarten through eighth grade, as a classroom teacher, gifted education teacher, and educational technologist. She served as the Okinawa District ISS for Educational Technology for two years. She served thirteen schools in the Okinawa district in this capacity. In 2010 Weddle began her stint in administration as an assistant principal at Naples Elementary School and held this position for three years.

In 2013 Weddle became the principal at Sembach Elementary School and served in this capacity for four years. Her most recent assignment was with Seoul American Elementary School as the principal until the school’s closing in 2019. Her interests in education focus on differentiated instruction, technology, brain and learning, and school culture and climate.

Weddle views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful students. She believes partnerships with parents and community members are essential to enriching the experience at any school. Weddle is enthusiastic in helping our military-connected students on their educational journey to ensure they leave with the skills necessary to succeed in high school as well as the curiosity, kindness, creativity and growth mindset for success in our global community.

 Weddle is married to Geoffrey Weddle. They have two children – Landon, age 21, and Milicent, age 16. Landon is currently attending college in Mississippi and Mili is entering her junior year in high school. Weddle loves to cook, is a photography enthusiast, and is an avid movie buff.

Tiffiney is a hometown girl from Laurel, Miss., and always remembers her roots. She is the daughter of Danny and Barbara Staples.
