Randy Curtis Cooper, 55, was charged with first-degree arson Friday after apparently setting fire to his own home on Pine Burr Road.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said a man charged with first-degree arson Friday apparently set fire to his own home on Pine Burr Road that morning.

Randy Curtis Cooper, 55, was taken to the Lamar County Jail about 3 p.m. in the incident. Rigel said deputies arrested Cooper at his home, which apparently had been set on fire intentionally.

Volunteer firefighters from Southwest Lamar, Pine Ridge and Lumberton responded to the house fire about 10:30 a.m., Rigel said.

Rigel said firefighters fought the blaze for a couple of hours. The home was a total loss and no injuries were reported.

Man questioned in Hattiesburg shooting

Hattiesburg police were questioning a person after a shooting victim was admitted to a local hospital about 3 p.m. Friday.

An investigation revealed that the shooting incident occurred in the 1200 block of Marie Street.

As of late Friday afternoon, officials believe the event was an isolated incident.
