A fifteen-year-old female was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Evans Creek Road east of Moselle this morning at approximately 7:13 a.m., according to the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
The victim was a passenger in a Ford Focus passenger car which apparently lost control and was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming Ford Club Wagon van.
Units from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, EMServ Ambulance Service, Union Fire & Rescue, and Johnson Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. The female teenager was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by firefighters using hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools. She was transported by EMServ to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg where she was pronounced deceased.
The teenage male driver of the Ford Focus was transported by EMServ to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel with injuries.
The adult male driver of the Ford van declined medical transport.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff's Department. The Jones County Coroner's Office has made family notifications on the deceased teenager.
Sheriff Joe Berlin noted in a release, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young lady."
