A mother and son were found deceased in their home in the Powers Community Wednesday, according to the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
"The Jones County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths of two residents in the Powers Community off of Highway 184 in Jones County," said the department in a release.
"Emergency Medical Responders from Powers Fire & Rescue and medics from EMServ Ambulance Service were dispatched to a medical call at a residence and discovered the initial deceased individual. Emergency responders immediately requested Jones County Sheriff's Department deputies to respond," stated the department.
According to Lance Chancellor with the JCSD, deputies arrived and entered the residence and found a second deceased individual in the home in another room.
Jones County Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth identified the deceased as 88-year-old Helen Hammac and 57-year-old Robert Hammac.
The Jones County Coroner's Office arrived on scene just after 11:30 a.m. and preliminary indications were that both residents died of natural causes.
"A final determination will be made by the Coroner's Office following the completion of their investigation," said Chancellor.
Family members of the two deceased individuals were notified. Sheriff Joe Berlin and the Jones County Sheriff's Department sent their sympathies to the family of the individuals.
