Witnesses stated that the 18-wheeler was traveling East on Highway 84 when the pickup crossed Highway 84 from the Sportsplex.

A Thursday night auto accident left one injured and Highway 84 blocked for more than hour according to Dana Bumgardner with the Jones County Fire Council.

Per the report, At 8:46 p.m. Thursday evening, Calhoun, Hebron, Sharon and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck on Highway 84 West in front of the Laurel Sportsplex.

Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters found the 18-wheeler and truck blocking the eastbound lanes along with lumber from the semi-truck strewn across the highway.

Witnesses stated that the 18-wheeler was traveling East on Highway 84 when the pickup crossed Highway 84 from the Sportsplex. The pickup spun around and ended up sideways on the highway. Almost the entire load of lumber from the 18-wheeler littered the eastbound lanes of Highway 84.

Both eastbound lanes were shut down for more than an hour and a half.

The driver of the 18-wheeler denied any injuries. The pickup truck driver was transported to the emergency department by EMServ Ambulance Service with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol were also on scene, along with multiple wrecker services to assist in moving the vehicles.
