No. 1 Laurel walloped Columbia, 68-0, as John Wright scored three times on runs of 1, 2 and 1 yard. Phil Hearn scored on runs of 42 and 35 yards while John Nichols bulled his way for a 4-yard TD run, and Ronnie Robinson scooted 40 yards for a score. Kenny Biglane scored on a 50-yard punt return and also caught a 44-yard pass from Scott Coffield for six points. Jimmy Keyes added 8 extra point kicks.
Sonny Walters scored on a 12-yard run and Dwight Sasser ran 9 yards and added a conversion in Glade’s 13-6 win over Sandersville. Soso shut out Moselle, 47-0, as Paul Welch threw three touchdown passes as he hit Billy Joe Holloway on TD passes of 40 and 61 yards and Kimbell Shows on a 35-yard TD pass. Bill Boykin scored on a 40-yard interception while Holloway picked up a fumble and ran 65 yards. Offensive scores came on runs from Harmon Sumrall and Berry Green.

Jones County Junior College romped over Southwest, 26-0, as Troy Wolverton and Rashard Philips rushed for scores. Charles Hales passed to Alonzo Nix for another score. Nick Terracina hit on two field goals.

Running back Jay Porter hit Joe Porter on a 6-yard TD pass as Jones Junior High blanked Maddox, 14-0. Ronald Keyes ran 4 yards and added the run conversion for the winners. Itawamba edged Jones County Junior College, 31-28. Billy King ran 3 yards and tossed a 57-yard pass to Jack Woods to lead JCJC. Billy Goodwin ran 20 yards while Jimmy Howard tossed a TD pass to Mike Lewis for 27 yards.

Laurel shut out Moss Point, 16-0, in Big 8 Conference play. Benny Hinton ran 15 yards and Mack Harrison passed 54 yards to Gregory Barnett for another TD. Don Cotton recorded a safety for the Tornadoes. Carroll Nobles ran for 152 yards and scored on a 42-yard run and also caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Russell Brooks. Steven Shovan picked off two passes for the Tigers while Kenny Cochran and Lovis Jones also had picks. West Jones fell to Poplarville, 36-18, and South Jones lost to Collins, 35-6.

Ronnie Ducksworth ran for 272 yards and three scores in leading West Jones over Petal, 28-21. John Clark scored on a 4-yard run for the Mustangs. Reggie Nickerson scored on a 1-yard run and Chris Hudson kicked a 29-yard field goal for Laurel in their 23-9 loss to Gulfport. Lee Speedy King scored on a 4-yard run, but South Jones fell to Ocean Springs, 39-7.

Co-Lin defeated Jones, 23-21, in JUCO action. Nelson Clayton, Simmy Cooley and Randy Turner scored for the Bobcats.

NE Jones edged West Jones, 16-14, as Jamal Nobles scored on runs of 2 and 14 yards for the Tigers. Ryan Milner kicked a 25-yard field goal for the Tigers. Alrekus Graves scored on 3- and 37- yard runs for the Mustangs. South Jones blanked NE Lauderdale, 17-0, behind two rushing touchdowns from Harold Beech. Brett Cooley added a couple of kick conversions and a 26-yard field goal.
