Tony Taylor threw a 42-yard TD pass to Bo Myrick and Alvin Gore ran 12 yards in leading Laurel over Magee, 14-12, in the Clinton Bowl.

November 23, 1956

Buddy Crosby scored three times as Laurel and Hattiesburg played to a 26-26 tie in the Little Brown Jug game.

November 23, 1991

Laurel’s basketball Tornadoes downed Quitman, 84-75. Jarvis Hayes led the way with 33 points while Johnny Rogers added 14 points. Laurel held highly recruited Antonio McDyess to 13 points.

November 23, 1996

Nick Cochran scored on runs of 29 and 37 yards in leading No. 6 Northeast Jones to a 23-0 win over East Central in the semifinals of the Class 4 South State football championships. Lee Gavin also ran three yards for a TD while Ryan Milner kicked a 22-yard field goal and added a couple of kick conversions. East Central crossed midfield only once in the game as the Tigers held them to 91 yards of total offense.

November 24, 1961

Laurel blanked Hattiesburg, 20-0, in the Little Brown Jug game played at Mississippi Southern College. James Nichols scored twice on 3- and 6- yard runs while Scott Coffield hit Kenny Biglane on a 15-yard pass. Jimmy Keyes kicked two extra points for the winners. It was Laurel’s seventh shutout of the season. The Barney Poole-led Tornadoes (10-0) were slated to play North Big 8 winner Jackson Murrah in 10 days for the Big 8 Conference Championship back at Mississippi Southern.

November 24, 2001

South Pike slipped past Northeast Jones, 16-8, in the Class 4-A playoffs. Daniel Rustin ran one yard while Nathan Jack added the 2-point conversion. The Tigers ended the season with an overall 10-3 mark.

November 25, 1960

Laurel (8-2) used two short runs by James Nichols to down Hattiesburg, 27-20. Steve O’Neil intercepted a pass for a TD while Scott Coffield passed to Clifton Prince for a score.

Pete Fleming, Dan Richardson and Joe Flowers of Jones County Junior College were named to the All-State JUCO football team.

November 27, 1961

Glade’s basketball coach Billy Ray Hodges downed his brother Frank’s Philadelphia team, 101-87. Gary Holifield led Glade with 28 points, and Ronnie Holifield added 25 points. Tommy Herrington also scored 21 points while Sonny Walters added 13 points for the winners.

November 27, 1991

Joseph Cooper scored 26 points in leading JCJC over Clarke College, 80-60. Chris Keeton chipped in with 17 points for the Bobcats. Jarvis Hayes scored 25 points as Laurel downed Meridian, 77-73. Cynthia Jefferson tallied 18 points while Tosha Keyes added 16 points as Northeast Jones edged Quitman, 54-50.

November 28, 1966

Donnis Short scored 15 points as Laurel defeated Morton, 65-57. Mickey McCardle followed with a dozen points while Bobby Shirley chipped in 11 points and George Blackledge scored eight points.

November 28, 1981

Top-ranked South Natchez stayed unbeaten in the South State Championship game with a 21-0 blanking of West Jones (10-2). The Mustangs were led by Ronnie Ducksworth’s 132 yards rushing.
