Training never stops for the Jones County Sheriff's Department, and that includes the four-legged patrol members too.
K-9 Handler Joshua King and K-9 Bolo participated in training time at the Hattiesburg/Petal Police Academy recently, according to the Jones County Sheriff's Department in a release.
JCSD K-9 Bolo is a two year old Dutch Shepherd and is dual-purpose certified for Patrol (criminal apprehension, tracking and handler protection) and Narcotics.
Bolo began service with the Jones County Sheriff's Department on April 16, 2021.
Sheriff Joe Berlin noted in the release, "K-9 Bolo's addition to our K-9 Team brings to three canines assigned to our Patrol Division."
He added, "We need one more K-9 in order to have all four of our patrol squads with a K-9 and give us 24 hour coverage. We will be raising donated funds to help purchase the acquisition of a fourth K-9 as we don't have budgeted funds in the FY2021 budget. A K-9 costs upwards of $15,000 to procure and train, but the cost is a bargain when compared to the benefits of having a K-9 available on our patrol squads 24 hours a day."
