Shooting

A man has been charged with a shooting that happened earlier this afternoon in Montrose.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department received a call at approximately 2:10 p.m. Tuesday about the shooting that had occurred. Sheriff Randy Johnson explained a white male, 29-year-old Kevin Steen, was reportedly shot once in the back at a residence off CR 15533. Steen was transported by ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.

Charged in the shooting is 30-year-old Cole Nester, also a white male. He, according to Johnson, is currently being charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a vehicle.

The shooting is still under investigation.
