UPDATE:
It was an early Halloween morning for several Jones County volunteer fire departments after being called to the county's second structure fire in 12 hours. Sandersville volunteer fire department received a call for assistance at 900 West Main Street, Sandersville, for a structure fire at 4:30 a.m.
Fire apparatus arriving at the scene found the wooden home with heavy smoke and fire near the front of the structure. Battling the blaze required multiple fire apparatus on the scene and Main Street was shut down for about two hours due to presence of those emergency units. The home sustained heavy damage but no injuries were reported.
The sole resident of the home, Brian Hancock, had been at Camp Shelby for training for several weeks and was not home at the time of the incident. Hancock is an officer with Laurel and Sandersville police departments.
Sandersville VFD was assisted by Sharon, Glade and Powers volunteer fire departments.Jones County Sheriff's Office and Sandersville Police Department assisted with traffic control. Dixie Electric Power Association also responded to the scene.

Sandersville—Commuters near Main Street in Sandersville east of I-59 are urged to find an alternate route during their commute this morning. Sandersville, Glade, Sharon and Powers volunteer fire departments have been battling a structure fire at 900 West Main Street and the road is currently closed to thru traffic.
The road is expected to be closed for at least two hours.
