The City of Laurel is making some personnel changes and will be considering several property matters along with taking a look at water and sewer bonds during its upcoming meeting.
Based on the administration’s recommendation, the Laurel City Council last month approved making some changes in the Public Works and Parks/Recreation Departments regarding equipment inventory and employees. Now the administration is recommending that the council approve revisions to the city’s organizational chart regarding equipment operator positions in the Parks and Recreation Department.
According to city documents being proposed for the council’s upcoming meeting, the administration is asking the council to make revisions specifically in the Parks & Recreation Department.
City documents show that the council is being asked to approve an order revising the Recreation Maintenance division of the Parks & Recreation Department immediately to make changes to one position.
The administration is asking the council at Tuesday’s meeting to consider changing one Recreation Maintenance Equipment Operator I position at $10.72 per hour, $22,298.64 annually, Grade 4 Step 1 be changed to Recreation Maintenance Equipment Operator II Position at $12.36 per hour, $25,705.68 annually, Grade 7 Step 1.
Last month, the council approved the exchange of certain employee positions between the Public Works and Parks/Recreation Departments and the transfer of equipment and budgets from the Public Works Department to Parks and Recreation Department.
According to city documents, “the administration has determined that the exchange and transfer of certain employees’ positions, equipment and budgets between the Public Works Department and the Parks/Recreation Department will allow for the most efficient process of cleaning state-owned, city-owned and council-approved lots in the city and that the transfer is in the best interest of the city.”
Therefore the council authorized several changes.

- Move 2 (two) Equipment Operator II, with CDL (Public Works Drainage) Grade 8 Step 1 @ $12.98 per hour, $26,994.24 annually from Public Works Drainage to Equipment Operator I (Recreation Maintenance) Grade 4 Step 1 @ $10.72 per hour, $22,298.64 annually.

- Move 1 (one) 1996 Ford 6610 tractor with boom arm from Recreation Maintenance to Public Works Drainage.
The council at its next meeting is being asked to decide on this and several other items, including whether to authorize the issuance of up to $5 million in revenue bonds for its water and sewer and whether public hearings are needed on residents’ properties to determine if they are endangering the safety and well-being of others in the city.
The city’s inspection department is expected to ask the council to consider setting a date for public hearings for more than 20 pieces of properties in the city to determine if the properties are in such a state of uncleanliness so as to be a menace to the public health and safety of the community.
The council is also being requested to grant an appeal hearing to Tracy House concerning a denial of his Request for Variance (V-20-01) to construct multi-family housing in a Residential-2 Zoning District known as 114 West 23rd Street. According to city documents, such multi-family housing is permitted in Residential-3 and Residential-4 zoning.
The council is scheduled to meet at 5:30 Tuesday in the Council Chambers at Laurel City Hall.
