Shortly before 1:00 p.m. today, Sharon, Shady Grove and Laurel Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 16 Heatherwood Drive in Laurel. Neighbors noticed smoke coming from the roof of the two-story brick home and activated 911.
Angela Howard, the home owner and sole resident, was out of town when the incident occurred. Upon arrival of the first responding fire apparatus, the home was engulfed with smoke and shortly thereafter flames were visible through the roof in the center of the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after an aggressive attack, but the home sustained major damage.
No injuries were reported. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene.
