ELLISVILLE - The Ellisville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to approve several matters designed to improve the lives and services of Ellisville's citizens.
Ellisville Mayor Lynn Buckhaults and the Board of Aldermen handled several items during a recent meeting, including an emergency sewer lift station repair.
With little discussion, the board agreed to approve a water adjustment of $21.13 for Tianna Turner at 1002 Van Buren in Ellisville due to a water leak. The board approved the adjustment under the city's water leak adjustment policy, which went into effect in June 2019.
Mayor Buckhaults said the policy allows the city to handle these matters uniformly.
"Some rural water associations don't adjust, and some do," the mayor said. "State law dictates we can't give away water."
Based on the formula proposed, city officials said the property owner would be given some relief. Still, the city cannot take on the full amount because it has already incurred some cost involving water production and treatment.
Buckhaults said, according to an Attorney General's opinion, "anytime you adjust a water bill, it has to come before the board."
The resident said the leak had been found and fixed.
Officials said under the policy, only one adjustment is allowed per account in five year period.
In a separate matter, the board approved an invoice of $10,100 from Cooper Electric. The matter was approved nunc pro tunc, which means that it was a retroactive action, due to the need for an emergency repair for the Paulding Road Lift Station's sewer bypass.
The board also approved some budget amendments and changes to the city's Memorandum Agreement for the city's Court Street Sidewalk Project.
In other business, the board approved a list of computers to be destroyed due to upgrades, list of vehicles to be sold as scrap metal and a list of vehicles to be advertised for sale.
The board also approved the purchase of an ad for the South Jones High School Football in the amount of $95 and agreed to keep the city's insurance plans with Allstate and Unium Dental.
Mayor Buckhaults and the board also recognized two city employees for their recent accomplishments. Deputy City Clerk Suanne Jeffrey Williams graduated from the Mississippi Municipal League (MML) Basic CMO Course.
