First responders are currently working at the scene of a helicopter crash off of Highway 15 South in the Glade community. Multiple Jones County volunteer fire departments responded to the scene when the call came in at 8:46 am this morning. One person is confirmed deceased in the incident.

At the time of the crash, the MD500 helicopter burst into flames. The fire is believed to be a magnesium fire, which was particularly difficult to extinguish. The helicopter was owned by an out-of-state company which was in the area trimming trees off power lines. The pilot was on his first flight of the day when the incident occurred.

Jones county Sheriff’s Office is on scene along with Glade, Powers, Calhoun, M & M and Sandersville volunteer fire departments. The coroners office, Jones County EMA, Emserv Ambulance Service and personnel from Mississippi Power also responded. International Fire & Safety also assisted with equipment for the fire departments.

Responding departments anticipate being in the area for several hours. Jones County Fire Council urges motorists traveling on Highway 15 South to use caution, since personnel and equipment will be in the area.

Information will be updated as more becomes available.
