According to Paul Sheffield, Jones County Emergency Management executive director, the National Weather Service in Jackson says the weather impact from Tropical Storm Cristobal for Jones County is in the Slight Risk for severe weather today, Sunday, June 7, and in the Significant Risk for flash flooding in the area for Sunday and Monday. Monday, Jones County is in the Marginal Risk for severe weather.
Slight Risk means severe storms are possible with damaging winds up to 60 mph and tornadoes.
Marginal Risk means isolated severe storms are possible with damaging winds up to 60 mph and tornadoes possible.

Significant Risk for flash flooding means the possibility of 4 to 8 inches of rain in less than six hours. Numerous roads may become flooded or closed with an increasing threat to structures and possible water rescues.
The timing for the possible severe weather begins this afternoon and continues into Monday. The timing for possible flash flooding begins Sunday night and continues through Monday.
Should Jones County be placed under a tornado watch or severe thunderstorm watch, the Jones County 361 Safe Room located at 1425 Ellisville Blvd. will be opened.
