According to a Laurel Police Department press release, officers responded to Brown Circle on Sunday night, May 3 shortly before midnight. The officers were responding to an assault complain.
It was reported that a male suspect had entered an apartment and was in the process of assaulting a female when he was stabbed. The suspect fled the apartment and was transported to SCRMC by private vehicle. The suspect was later transported to Forrest General Hospital, where he passed away from a single stab wound.
The suspect has been identified as Robert Delawn Jasper Jr. of Laurel. The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. LPD CID has been in consultation with the Jones County District Attorney’s Office and at this time the wound appears to be in self-defense.
