Laurel Police Department officers responded to a report of armed robbery on Tuesday, December 17 at First State Bank located at 1808 Highway 84 West. The call came in just before 1:00 p.m.
It was reported that the victim was walking into the bank to make a deposit and was robbed by a male suspect with a firearm. No injuries were reported at the scene.
A short time later, members of LPD’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested Stephan Matthews (23 years of age) at an apartment in Brown Circle. The undisclosed amount of money and a weapon was recovered. Matthews stands charged with one count of armed robbery. More arrests are likely in this case.
