Will Young Road Home

This home was destroyed yesterday by fire on Will Young Road near Ovett.

Volunteer fire departments from Jones County responded to 279 Will Young Road in Ovett Tuesday to a structure fire at the home of one of their own firefighters.

First responding fire personnel found the single wide mobile home with visible flames and heavy smoke. Homeowners Katie and Joshua Smith (who volunteers with Ovett VFD) were not at home at the time of the incident. Katie Smith’s mother, who lives next door, happened to walk by a front window in her home and saw smoke at the residence near the living room area and alerted 911. The home, also occupied by the Smith’s 1-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, sustained heavy damage in the blaze. Two chihuahua’s inside the home were lost in the fire.

Ovett, Glade, and Powers volunteer fire departments responded to the scene, as did Dixie Electric Power Association and the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

No other injuries were reported.
