In April this year, the citizens of Hattiesburg voted to approve a 1% tax on hotel/motel/restaurant which went into effect on June 1.

In the above video Mayor Toby Barker shares an update on the tax collection and projects update. Also featured in the video is Sid Gonsoulin who will serve as the construction manager for parks projects.
 
 
In April, the citizens of Hattiesburg voted to approve a 1% tax on hotel/motel/restaurant which went into effect on June 1. The check totaled $226,272.08, with the city's portion of the June revenue totaling $113,136.04. 
 
The City commits to transparency regarding the totals that come in from this tax along with the projects that it will pay for. The first two projects will begin within the next three weeks, one being the Thames Elementary gymnasium floor and the basketball/tennis courts at E 8th Street.
