The Jones County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting enhanced enforcement of seat belt, child safety seat, and impaired driving laws over the July 4th holiday weekend. Overtime details utilizing grant funding from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety will provide for saturation patrols and traffic safety checkpoints.
The JCSD has a goal of zero deaths and injuries this weekend in Jones County from traffic crashes involving drivers and passengers not wearing seat-belts and impaired drivers and their passengers, as well as other travelers on our roadways. Sadly, over 10,000 Americans are killed each year in alcohol impaired driving crashes, and over 10,000 Americans die in vehicle crashes each year while not wearing a seat-belt.
The JCSD goal is always to avoid any fatalities and injuries in vehicle crashes in Jones County regardless of the cause. The Sheriff’s Department wishes everyone a happy and safe July 4th holiday weekend!
Heavy traffic law enforcement planned locally for July 4th weekend
JCSD Deputy Derick Knight is shown issuing several traffic citations and a post-arrest citation for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia on Thursday evening during a traffic stop while JCSD Deputy Jardian McDonald keeps an eye on the driver and his passenger. The JCSD is planning a strong presence in the county during the July 4th weekend to help keep residents safe.Â
