Covington County Sheriff Darrell “Perk” Perkins was leading the tracking dogs near Seminary on Thursday morning after three inmates escaped through the jail’s skylight about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The three inmates – Dillon Parr, 21, Mount Olive; Alexander Knight, 32, Seminary; and Christopher Love, 30, Hattiesburg – ran away from the jail after their escape through the skylight. The search began immediately.

Perkins said early attempts to locate the trio were unsuccessful, but he doesn’t believe they have gone far.

“They are still in the county,” he said about noon. “We have had a lot of cooperation from other agencies, and we are working hard to locate them. There are just a lot of places to hide in the county.”

Perkins had a warning for local residents.

“I want to tell them to please stay inside their homes and keep their doors locked,” he said.

Parr was being held without bond after being charged with manslaughter-heat of passion in the November 2018 shooting death of his neighbor, Christopher Hand. Hand was shot once in the upper shoulder and neck area on Nov. 13, according to reports.

Hand was rushed to the hospital but died about 4:18 p.m. His body was sent to the State Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy.

Parr made his initial appearance before Justice Court Judge Bobby Wayne Mooney on Nov. 14.

Perkins said Knight is facing a charge of commercial burglary. Charges against Love were not immediately available.
