Permanent driver’s license stations around the state – including Hattiesburg – will open beginning Monday for persons with A-E first letters of last names.
The Department of Public Safety will modify the license stations to ensure social distancing due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The stations will be open on specific days, but Wednesday is only open for walk-ins. Other open days are Tuesdays (F-L last names), Thursdays (M-S last names), and Fridays (T-Z last names).
Face coverings are encouraged while inside the stations.
Services available in-person are CDL transactions, out-of-state transfers, new credentials, new identification card credentials, sex offender registration, permit tests for students, reinstatements, non-U.S. citizens, and ignition-interlock restricted licenses. Security guard permits will be handled on Wednesdays only.
All road tests for non-commercial drivers are waived until further notice to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Minors can submit an affidavit completed by a parent or guardian certifying 50 hours of supervised driving time, which will be available on the website (https://www.driverservicebureau.dps.ms.gov/).
Driver Service is a bureau of the Department of Public Safety.
