Moselle, Union and Southwest volunteer fire departments responded to a three car collision on Interstate 59 at the 84-mile marker in the northbound lanes about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.  The initial call came in as a five-car pile up, but on arrival first responding fire units found three vehicles involved in the incident.

According to witnesses, it appears there were two separate incidents within moments of each other, with the initial wreck involving a Nissan Rouge and a small pickup.  After that collision, the Rouge was left down the embankment on I-59 and the pickup was left stranded in the middle of the northbound lanes with no functioning lights.  Shortly thereafter, a woman in an F-150, unable to see the pickup until it was too late, struck the pickup and effectively moved it to the shoulder of interstate.

The volunteer fire departments assisted with traffic control, emergency medical care, and cleaning a significant amount of debris that littered the interstate.  Emserv Ambulance Service evaluated three total patients, with one patient refusing transport, one transported with minor injuries, and the third with significant injuries transported emergently to the hospital.

Jones County Sherrif's Office and MHP were also on scene.  A feline occupant in the Nissan Rouge was uninjured, and no other injuries were reported.

Jones County Fire Council would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to slow down when they encounter an incident like this on the roadway and move over to the far lane or shoulder of the road, if that is a possibility.
